Havelsan, a state-owned defence vendor responsible for the development and producing various command and control solutions in Turkey, recently announced that it has applied for patent rights for four newly developed submarine subsystems.

These systems are:
* 'Torpedo Fire Control System';
* 'Submarine Information Distribution System';
* 'Situational Target Motion Analysis System';
* and 'Online Performance Analysis System' .

According to Havelsan's General Manager, Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, the company had invested 80 million Turkish Liras ($27 million U.S.) towards research and development efforts.

Speaking to Defense News, a Turkish industry official said, "If Havelsan's [submarine] programs, after integration, give a happy ending, Turkey would no more buy imported systems."

Notes: The Torpedo Fire Control System (i.e. TORAKS) and Submarine Information Distribution System (i.e. DBDS) are among Havelsan's marquee programs and are meant for the Turkish Navy's "New Type Submarine" program (based on the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Type 214). Havelsan is also developing a combat management system and command and control system for the New Type Submarine.
